When the members of First Filipino Alliance Church officially organised in 1989 as a “self-supporting, self-propagating, self-governing” local congregation, it was the first work among Filipino-Canadian immigrants by the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada . Through the years, the members of this young congregation would embrace the vision of reaching Filipinos locally and globally for the purpose of advancing the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Though there are now 15 Filipino Alliance churches across Canada, First Filipino Alliance still stands as a significant catalyst in motivating and mobilizing Filipinos to take part in reaching their communities and the world with Jesus Christ’s message of hope and life.
There have been three meeting places for FFAC. First in the facilities of its “mother church”, the Millbourne Alliance Church on the south side of the city, and second in the Meadowlark area in Edmonton’s west end. The current building was built in the 1950s and is an example of modern architecture. In its early years fondly called “the Church in the Park”, was purchased by FFAC from its first owners, the St. Stephen United Church, and dedicated for worship on February 28, 1993. The facility in the Forest Heights area continues to serve as a center for contemplation, worship, and Christian community.
Since its organisation, FFAC has played a pivotal role in the religious life of its city and nation. First Filipino Alliance Church has been instrumental in the organising of CFAM and FIN and has sent out some of its most dedicated members to minister across Canada as pastors, and as missionaries and Christian workers to the world.
FFAC today continues its ministry of daily worship, Christian fellowship, and outreach to the community, the city, the nation, and the world.
