LESSON OF THE EAR PULL
In the past week, news organizations carried the story of a
former Russian wrestler who wanted to set a world record with the aid of his
ear. The plan involved attaching a rope to a military helicopter with the other
end tied around one of his ears! It was
not a pretty sight. His ear looked bloody and mangled. But, he succeeded in
pulling the helicopter a short distance for the record.
It reminds me of God’s real purpose for our physical ears.
His intention is that we might be “quick to listen and slow to speak…” (James
1:19) Someone has said that is why we have two ears but only one mouth!
IT is a reminder that the Lord has given each of us gifts
and abilities as well as the parts of our bodies for very specific purposes.
God tells us in I Peter 4:10 that He has given various gifts to every Christian
to use for His Divine purpose and glory and to help others in their needs. The Russian man was seeking glory and fame
for himself. That is the reason for attempting such an extreme feat. How foolish it is when you and I use our
tongues for gossip instead of blessing and encouragement. How selfish it is
when we use our abilities for pursuing more money for ourselves rather than
using our God-given gifts and money for serving the Lord and leading others to
saving faith on our Savior.
Every good gift comes from God (James 1:17) Use your gifts
according to God’s instructions. To act in disobedience to God and act out of a
selfish motive is to achieve a result that is distracting and of no lasting
significance. That is one lesson form
the “ear pull”.
