Keep Your Lights On

The vehicle was just ahead of me but I could hardly see it in the deepening increasingly dark sky of dusk.  There were no lights on. I see too many people driving at dusk without their lights on. They either don’t care or don’t seem to realize that it is hard for another driver to see their car even if it is not completely dark

. Some people are clearly not prepared to drive!

When Jesus was teaching His disciples one day, He told them to keep their lights on! He also warned them of others who were not prepared to live. But, as for you, Jesus said:

“Be dressed ready for service and KEEP YOUR LAMPS BURNING, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.” (Luke 12:35-36)

I hope that you are not so busy with your plans that you fail to see the signs that our Saviour, Jesus, is soon returning to this earth. The frequencies of storms, natural disasters, immoral behavior, leadership corruption, and financial turmoil in the world’s markets are all part of what Christ warned us about in several Biblical sections, including Luke chapter 21: 5-36:

“Be careful or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.”(Luke 21:34)

The words of Jesus are meant to encourage us to “keep our lights on” SO THAT WE WILL BE VISIBLE TO OTHERS WHO ARE LIVING IN DARKNESS.  “Let your light shine so that others will find their way to trust in Jesus their only hope for eternity.” Matthew 5:16)  Ask yourself today: Am I living my life in union with God in such as way as to shine the light of Jesus to people who are burdened and confused?  You must keep close to Christ so that you have the necessary power to keep your lights on!
